How BRT Philadelphia Is Changing Public Transportation

While our city has one of the most robust transit systems in the country, we need new policies, planning approaches, and investment. A significant reduction in mass transit could impact the entire philadelphia region this fall. On thursday, septa announced its budget proposal outlining major service cuts including the elimination of five regional rail lines and 50 bus routes in response to what the mass transit service calls a massive structural budget deficit for the 2026 fiscal year, which begins july 1. Part of philadelphia's transit plan includes a redesign of septa's bus network. Philadelphia officials, regional partners, and representatives from the southeastern pennsylvania transportation authority (septa) released a new plan for improving public transit in the city.
